The Machrie is a beautiful hotel with a fantastic restaurant in a gorgeous location. The pros: - Friendly staff - Delicious food - They clearly use a water softener & taking a shower was an experience - Comfy bed, firm but soft. The sheets were so soft and silky cotton - Beautiful views of the sea & hills from the Executive rooms - Gorgeous grounds with sheep roaming in the grass The cons: - Deluxe rooms are very small - Breakfast not included if you booked through Expedia - No air conditioner so if you want some cool air, you have to open a window & there are no screens so expects daddy long legs to fly into the room - No help with luggage so if you more than 1 bag, you're on your own

Had a great experience here on Thursday and Friday. Despite an error with the 3rd party booking, Aidan generously resolved the issue after speaking with Carlos on reception and were a delight to deal with. Margaret and Jo the housekeepers do a fantastic job with the rooms and were super friendly and even gave us some suggestions thanks! Calum was a great help in the evening with the fire logs and during breakfast. The chef was incredible, Cullen Skink, duck cooked to perfection and the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. Thanks also to our South African waitress (sorry forgot your name) who was on point with her recommendations 👌 Looking forward to our next visit already. Thanks for the hospitality to all involved!

I can't recommend The Machrie enough! We were greeted by friendly staff at check in and given a tour of the hotel. We were upgraded to the Ben Hogan suite during our stay, with floor to ceiling views of the 18th hole, countryside and beach. The room was immaculate and the staff made our stay special at every opportunity. The restaurant was exceptional and came with knowledgeable whisky recommendations. I cannot wait to return!

We had a lunch here. The service was brilliant from the minute you walk in, friendly, welcoming absolutely spot on. The food really good, I mean REALLY good and big portions. The Club Sandwich was enough to feed four. The Smoked Scallop Salad ..was simply the best I have had. Lovely to sit out on the terrace, watch the golf, view the sea and butterflies fluttering past. This was a very nice dining experience.

Lovely course, generous fairways which make it playable for all levels. Black tees give the course length, if that's what you looking for. Greens are in good condition, undulating, firm and true. Good practice facilities. There's even a 6 hole par 3 course, which is a bit of fun. The scenery is marvellous, as it is on the majority of Islay. The rooms in the hotel are top notch. Staff are professional, friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are great, food for dinner is reasonable but a little limited of fine dining options. Overall a very enjoyable experience, one I'd recommend.

Didn’t actually stay overnight but went for lunch, played the course then had dinner in the evening. Lunch was really good fast service and very friendly and welcoming staff. The course was in fantastic condition, so far the best course I’ve played, challenging course but suitable for any golfer. Went back for dinner and and the venison dish I ordered was the best meal I had over my long weekend stay on Islay. Will definitely be back again in the future.

This is a lovely hotel next to the golf links. Public transport buses do stop at the end of the road and it's a ten minute walk to the hotel. The food is excellent. You can practice your putting on the massive green at the back but watch out for the sprinklers. The hotel will lend you a putter and golf balls.
